Protecting Your Retirement from the "Silent Risks"

Self Assessment

Find Out: Is this Strategy Right for You?

IULs serve a strategic purpose for many retirees, but is it right for you? Our 2-minute assessment helps you identify if this strategy could be a useful tool in your retirement.

What is an Indexed Universal Life Insurance Policy (IUL)

An IUL policy is a form of permanent life insurance that generally provides lifelong protection along with a cash value component. The cash value grows based on the performance of a market index, but is not directly invested in the market.

Permanent Life Insurance

Provides a death benefit designed to support your family or estate planning needs.

Builds Cash Value Over Time

IULs can grow over time, with growth linked in part to a market index, allowing you to earn gains on "up" years, while potentially protecting from losses on down years.

Designed for Tax Flexibility

Access your cash value potentially income-tax-free through policy loans, subject to policy terms and conditions.

How Some Retirees Use This IUL Strategy

Indexed Universal Life (IUL) insurance offers a layer of flexibility over some other financial vehicles. IULs have no required minimum distributions (RMDs) or IRS penalties for accessing funds prior to age 59 ½. In addition to carrying a death benefit, these policies can serve as a versatile tool for retirees when properly structured to meet specific long-term goals.

An IUL policy provides a death benefit designed to support your family, replace lost income, or help with estate planning needs. Unlike term insurance, it is designed to provide lifelong protection as long as the policy is sufficiently funded and maintained according to the policy.

Over time, your policy can build up cash value based on market performance. Within your policies guidelines, you can access this money through policy loans, which the IRS generally doesn't count as taxable income. This can be a great way to get extra cash for retirement without increasing your income tax bill. Policy loans will reduce the available death benefit and cash value, and must be managed carefully to prevent the policy from lapsing, which could trigger a taxable event.

Many traditional retirement accounts come with strict federal distribution rules and tax liabilities. An IUL can offer an additional layer of flexibility, providing another option for when and how you access funds, which may be income-tax-free under current tax laws.

The loss of a spouse often triggers a transition to a higher tax bracket while simultaneously receiving a reduction in overall retirement income. A properly structured IUL can provide essential protection in a number of ways.

Life insurance is a common tool for passing wealth to the next generation efficiently. It can help equalize inheritances for heirs or provide the necessary liquidity for estate-related expenses, which may help avoid the forced sale of other family assets.

Some policies include riders that allow you to access a portion of the death benefit if you are diagnosed with a qualifying chronic, critical, or terminal illness. These "living benefits" are subject to medical eligibility and specific policy terms, which can vary by carrier.

Let's Get Started

The Process is Simple

You will receive education to determine if an IUL makes sense for you. If you decide to move forward, this is generally how the process goes.

Because this strategy is a new concept for many, we strongly recommend attending one of Brett's live workshops or watching the pre-recorded webinar. This ensures you understand the "why, what, and how" of this strategic approach.

During a no-obligation meeting, we will determine if this strategy aligns with your unique situation. Our goal is to ensure you have the right tools for your retirement—whether that includes this specific strategy or not.

Once we’ve determined the strategy is the right fit, you will begin the formal application and medical underwriting process. During this stage, life insurance underwriters will evaluate your profile to finalize policy terms.

Once the policy is in force, we don't just walk away. We provide ongoing support and offer annual reviews to monitor performance, ensuring your strategy stays on track as tax laws and market conditions change.

Most people think of life insurance as protection. It can also be a tool for tax-advantaged flexibility later in life.

Could an IUL Be Worth Exploring?

Not every strategy fits every person. This short assessment helps you evaluate whether concerns like taxes, legacy planning, and protecting a portion of your assets with this IUL strategy is relevant in your situation.
